Country duo Maddie & Tae put their spin on holiday classics and offer up new standards on their first Christmas release. Maddie Font and Taylor Kerr contribute two original holiday songs to the new EP: "Merry Married Christmas," a soulful, retro look at wedded bliss during the holiday season, and the title track, a nostalgic ballad about the healing and hope offered by the Christmas holiday. Font and Kerr also offer four interpretations of their favorite holiday songs, like the jubilant opening track "This Christmas," written and originally made popular by Donny Hathaway, and the traditional Christmas carol "O Come All Ye Faithful." On their version of "Holly Jolly Christmas," Font and Kerr trade their country twang for a jazzy swing. Darlene Love's "Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)" is stripped down to a mournful acoustic ballad, showing another side of the popular tale of romantic holiday longing.
